Abstract
We have done a three part, symbolic trace of quilting in the new world. The first by Dan Daniel considers traditional quilts using fundamental geometric forms. The perspective is that of a humanist considering a personal relationship with quilts. The second is from a quilter's point of view, that of Deb Schmidt, and offers commentary on the use of computer software developed specifically for quilt-making. The third perspective is that of mathematician and artist Slavik Jablan who considers the principle of modularity as it applies to contemporary as well as ancient design.
